Above the Clouds Are Not In It for the “Applause” – It’s About the Message:
Source FiveTwenty Collective:
When it comes to making music, every artist loves appreciation. But for Above the Clouds, it’s not about the cheers or the standing ovations—it’s about delivering a message that lasts.
The duo, made up of lyricist iNTELLECT (Ohio) and producer Tae Lamar (Illinois), is back with their latest single, Applause, set to release on February 28, 2025. This high-energy track features Christian rap veteran MotionPlus and DJ Radiohead, bringing a fusion of hard-hitting boom bap, top-tier lyricism, and turntable skills that give the record an undeniable underground appeal.
With a strong foundation in faith, Applause challenges listeners to seek God’s approval rather than the validation of others. As iNTELLECT explains, “What drives us as Christians should be that God is pleased with what we do and not men.”
Following their well-received single Soul Food, Above the Clouds continues to raise anticipation for their next full-length project. And if Applause is any indication, fans of authentic, faith-driven hip-hop are in for something special.
Stay tuned, because Above the Clouds is just getting started.
Official Press Release:
Sandusky, OH; Chicago, IL – “For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.” [Ephesians 2:8-10]
Every artist loves it when their art is well received and appreciated. While we may love the applause, we must be careful not to get lost in the adoration of others. If that becomes our motivation, we are destined to be let down…

###
About Above the Clouds:
Rapper iNTELLECT and beat maker Tae Lamar formed the group Above the Clouds in early 2019 due to their common love for Jesus and 90’s hip hop. Drawing comparisons to classic hip hop groups like Pete Rock & CL Smooth and Gang Starr (who the name of the group is inspired by), this producer/emcee collaboration delivers a nostalgic brand of hip hop that shows that you can deliver the gospel over classic boom bap.
